UNCLE PAUL, 2016 (MD)
CAL NATION--PILGRIMS TRAIL, by ORATORY
Uncle Paul is not really a war horse, as he is only three-years-old. He does have the mind of an older horse, however, as he takes everything in stride, no spook, has a beautiful hunter stride, and has only been ridden in a bitless bridle and Western saddle. He is 15.1 hands and was never enthused about a racing career, "retiring" at the end of March 2019. He is eligible for the 2020 RRP. We can imagine him in the Western division as he is chunky and compact, but his movement says he can be placed in a variety of disciplines. He has thrived with 24/7 turnout, growing 2 inches and and gaining at least 100 pounds since he left the track. Very quiet, very smart! Rider was roping fence posts (we have no cattle) off of him on day one...

OLD UPSTART, 2011 (KY)
OFFLEE WILD--DARLING RACHEL, by FUSAICHI PEGASUS
This dkb/br gelding joined our program in July 2019 from the NYTHA's Take the Lead program. He is 16.1 hands and a winner of 11 races competing mostly on the New York circuit. Old Upstart is a perfect gentleman, is sound, learned how to longe and has a very steady calm way of going. He is eligible for the 2020 RRP. More photos and his video are available. He has not been started under saddle yet but his attitude and age suggest he will be very willing to learn. These older horses are just continuing their jobs, not new to a saddle and rider at all! Great in field with five other pasture mates.
MISS MONTY, 19yo Thoroughbred mare, rescued from kill pen July 2019. Seen here with retired disabled Marine veteran Andrew King and his 6-year-old son Arian. Our only mare, but she's a keeper!
We call them War Horses, or Our Boys, or sometimes more expressive names, but to us, these veterans of the racing wars are special. For many owners, many trainers, and definitely thousands of racing fans and bettors, Bart, Hermie, Sissy (System Restore), Gimme Credit and Wally have provided excitement, thrills, and income. It is now time for payback!
War Horses at Rose Bower is committed to a safe retirement for all of our horses--old or young. But always, the hardknocking, aged runners will be always be treated with the respect, care and the love they so deserve. Consider donating to the care of or monthly sponsoring of one of our retirees.
Not a great picture, but shows he is growing, has strong hindquarters, and is an easy keeper! Replacement photo coming soon!
BEING UPDATED WITH MORE HORSES.
